Sarah Rogers has seen her 13-year-old daughter, Patty, go through more in the last year and a half of her life than most adults have to endure in a lifetime.
Two years ago, Patty was diagnosed with an extremely advanced case of childhood cancer known as neuroblastoma.
“She just finished her 11th course of chemotherapy and is wiped out, nauseated, and in pain,” said Rogers of her daughter. “We will be going to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati in three weeks for a different type of therapy for children with recurring or resistant cancer.”
With Patty’s medical needs being the top priority, Rogers doesn’t have the time or finances to tackle the upkeep the family’s home needs, so a family friend turned to the Wishmakers program for help.
“The family’s air conditioning system wasn’t working properly, costing them a lot of extra money each month – extra money they didn’t have,” said Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List. “The family tried to contact the company that installed the unit, but they were out of business, so we reached out to highly-rated Rossville HVAC company, Selvey Heating & Cooling, for help.”
On July 13, 2012, a technician found that improper duct installation was the cause of the issue and was able to quickly correct the problem.
“Providing services like this at no charge is only possible because of our wonderful clients who keep us in business,” said owner David Selvey.
A crew from Selvey was back out at the house on June 21 to perform a free tune-up on the A/C system.
Cynthia White, Patty’s sister and owner of the Roger’s home, said, “I still can’t believe how we have struggled with the major A/C issues since 2007 and it was such a simple fix! I am so appreciative [of] Selvey. They will definitely have my business in the future! I was incredulous when I heard there would be no cost to us; I was just hoping for a decent discount! I had called air conditioning repair companies in the past and no one wanted to mess with someone else’s shoddy work without a substantial cost just for driving out here.
My father was very impressed with how fast the repairman, Jarrod, identified the problem, as well as his friendliness and helpful advice about selecting more efficient filters. Everyone on our end was very happy with the end results.”
